Give the Oppressed Hope in Jesus’ Name
Pakistan’s Supreme Court has just made a tragic ruling impacting Christians ... and the Islamists who seek to harm them.
According to International Christian Concern (ICC):
In 2014, “a violent mob attacked [Christian couple] Shahzad and Shama [Masih] after they were accused of desecrating pages of the Quran. The mob severely beat the couple before throwing them into a hot brick kiln, where they both died.”
More than 100 locals were arrested, charged, and imprisoned. But in the years since, and through varying legal proceedings and court rulings, the majority of suspects were freed and very little justice was served.
The country’s Supreme Court just put “the last nail” in the Christian couple’s coffin: It ordered the release of the final three men on death row serving time for the crime.
“With this decision,” ICC states, “along with the dismissal of a state appeal against the acquittal of 102 other suspects, no one remains convicted or in prison for the attack."
What a shame.
Still, 12 years later, justice has not been served. And yet, this is the fate for many tragedies involving Christ-followers in hostile communities.
Islamists often get acquitted ... believers continue to face abuse, violence, and oppression.
